Manchester United are reportedly preparing a significant bid to address their pressing need for attacking reinforcements. The club is said to be eyeing a £58.6 million offer for a French international forward, aiming to strengthen their goal-scoring options in an effort to turn their season around.
During the summer transfer window, United invested nearly £180 million in new signings, including Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, and Noussair Mazraoui, as part of a squad overhaul. Despite these additions, the team has yet to see the expected improvements on the pitch. With only seven league games into the season, United finds itself at a disappointing point, recording its lowest points tally at this stage of the Premier League campaign. While the team has shown flashes of promise, consistency has been an issue.
Manager Erik ten Hag’s position has also come under scrutiny due to these underwhelming results. However, following recent discussions with the club’s leadership, it appears Ten Hag will remain in his role for the foreseeable future. Still, there are growing uncertainties about whether he will stay beyond this season, especially if the results don’t improve. Despite this, United seems determined to bolster the squad further, regardless of Ten Hag’s long-term future.
One of the major issues facing Manchester United is their inability to consistently find the back of the net. In fact, their goal tally is among the lowest in the Premier League this season, with only Southampton scoring fewer goals so far. The underperformance of their forwards has played a key role in the team’s struggles.
Joshua Zirkzee, one of the summer signings intended to resolve United’s goal-scoring woes, has managed just one goal in the league so far, a debut strike against Fulham on the opening day of the season. Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund, who joined from Atalanta last summer, has also been unable to live up to expectations. The Danish striker scored 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances last season but has failed to convince the Old Trafford faithful that he is the long-term solution up front.
The combination of Højlund and Zirkzee has resulted in a disappointing two goals in 15 appearances between them this season. Given the investment made in the duo—over £108 million—it’s clear that more is expected from both players. As a result, United is actively exploring options to remedy the lack of goals.
Manchester United Eye £58.6m Deal for PSG Star in Bid to Solve Goal-Scoring Crisis
One of the names being considered is Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani. According to reports from Fichajes, United is planning a £58.6 million bid for the Frenchman, with a move likely to take place next summer. Kolo Muani only joined PSG in September last year, but his time in the French capital has been far from ideal. Since arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported £67 million, the 25-year-old has struggled to make a significant impact under manager Luis Enrique.
Kolo Muani has managed just eight goals in 33 league appearances, falling short of expectations given his considerable price tag. With a contract running until 2028, it may seem unlikely that PSG would be willing to part ways with him so soon, but recent events suggest his future could be in question. The fact that he was substituted at half-time during PSG’s match against Lille last weekend has raised eyebrows, potentially signaling that his time in Paris may be limited.
After United’s goalless draw against Aston Villa last Sunday, Ten Hag openly acknowledged the team’s problems in front of goal. In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, the manager expressed his concern about the team’s lack of firepower, stating, “We know we have a lack of goals. In that perspective, it’s not a good start. Definitely not. We have to step up. If you want to win games, you have to score. That’s an area where we have to improve.”
With United’s goal-scoring issues laid bare, the potential addition of a player like Kolo Muani could be crucial in reigniting their attack. While it remains to be seen whether United will successfully secure the Frenchman’s signature, it is clear that addressing their struggles up front is a top priority if they are to salvage their season.
